I wonder where you folks land on this. Some of you will no doubt have heard of this, but to me and I imagine a few other souls, ‘just in time’ learning vs. ‘just in case’ learning is a new concept. I bet for a few of you with you eidetic memories (jerks!), this isn’t a concern. For the rest of us mortals, it might be interesting to look at our reading and learning habits.
‘Just in case’ refers to reading or learning something in the event we may need to use it. For example, you’re a lifetime freelancer and reading a book on best hiring practices. Conversely, ‘just in time’ is gathering information when it is required. For example, you’ve made a few bad hires recently, and you’ve now taken a book out on better-interviewing tactics.
It’s been my experience, ‘just in time’ learning STICKS, whereas the opposite does not, and thus proves to be a somewhat ineffective effort.
