My name is Adam Steele, and I am the founder of internet marketing companies such as The Magistrate, Loganix and LocalPBN. Today, I am honored to have the chance to put together the OG newsletter for you all. It features the best of 2015 and what’s hot for 2016, as well as a few thoughts on how we can use our membership to help each other grow.
Haven’t been here for awhile? You are missing out! Log-In.
Did you know we have members from these companies and more?
David and I spoke last week, and it dawned upon us that we could help everyone get some serious press with collaborative effort. Think about how much web capital we have among our membership: Blogs, Twitter followers, contacts at major publishers… what if there was a way you could submit your recent product, offering, success to us, and we could work with the rest of our membership to feature you?
There are entrepreneur groups that do just this, have a smaller membership than our own, and charge big bucks per year for access. Join us in #guesposts.
If YOU have web properties (or access to) and want to help your fellow OG, we want to hear from you.
If YOU want press, we want to hear from you too.
Let’s Talk About Slack Hacks
You can’t call yourself a real “Product Hunt” lover until you deep dive into collections. We found one that has grouped together a number of great Slack interactions and interesting uses. It has everything you need, so you don’t ever need to go outside again-it even has a bot that will feed your Product Hunt back into Slack (full meta).
Plus, for even more Slackbots, we found a site devoted to them. If you want to add cool characters to your Slack, check out Slacker. A little setup goes a long way.
It doesn’t need to stop there though; IFTTT, Todoist, Trello, Ecommerce, Google Analytics… there are endless possibilities. Ask me or @david (@adamsteele) if you have any ideas you’d like to run by us. We live for this stuff!
Some Real OGs
Our members have a lot of cool stuff going on, and I want to take every opp to highlight their successes and contributions:
Member @jevyjevjevs got let go from his job, but he’s treating it like a blessing in disguise, and much good is coming from it. Here is a great article about the same, that many will likely relate too.
Member @ericho recently got featured on nerdist. Whoop! Whoop!
Member @Scott hit a milestone in the restoration (and transformation) of his bus/home…you have to see it to believe it. Here’s a pic.
…and so much more! Got something you’d like to shout out to our membership? Reply and let me know. We want to give you some lovin’.
I am all for books, but most of us just aren’t going to sit down and crack one open anymore. We need more mobility, and the ability to multi-task. Podcasts and Audiobooks were one of the best things to happen to me this past year.
Influence: This book should probably be titled “How People Can Scam You.” Heaps of useful information and tactics that help you manipulate for good and bad.
Who: Wealth of information about making smart hiring decisions. If you’re someone like me who makes LOTS of bad hiring decisions, this is such a excellent read.
The Hard Thing About Hard Things: I love how real this book gets. Ben Horowitz talks about his many ventures, the ups and the many downs, in painful detail. Lots of tactical advice.
Save yourself some coin, get three credits per month on Audible, and devour these over the next 30 days.
Song Exploder: OGs love to rip things apart and dig deep to get a real understanding of how they work. This podcast does that with alternative music.
Reply All: We really hope you’ve already heard of this one. If not, this is the most entertaining show about nothing really in particular. You could say it’s about the internet.
The Empire Podcast: Built by the guys over at Empire Flippers (Flippa without the sleaze and scams), this podcast will take you through the ins and outs of purchasing and selling online businesses.
A few other favorites…The Tim Ferriss Show, The #AskGaryVee Show, Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History, and Planet Money.
Partner Deals & Coupons
Not sure how many of you use Moz, but they have these wicked partner discounts. We could do that! Here are a few I’ve collected:
Let us know if you’d like to be mentioned next time.
Wade Foster – CEO, Zapier | Jan 28th, 2016 (1PM EST)
Ben Donkor – Social Media, Microsoft UK | Feb 2nd, 2016 (1PM EST)
James Altchur – Hedge fund manager, entrepreneur, bestselling author | TBA
A HUGE thanks to our own @scott for making these happen!
Have you checked out the new jobs board yet? It’s still young, but we’ve got a lot of eyeballs, and some great positions being added soon.
Next, if you’re in NYC, you’ve got to get out to one of our Meetups. Get the invite!
Also, we’re always looking for others to help us put together these newsletters. If it seems like your cup of tea, hit us up.
As a final parting note, I want to thank everyone for their regular contributions on Slack-it wouldn’t be what it is without you. If anyone has any suggestions on how we can make OG Slack (or the newsletter) more valuable, we’d love your feedback.
