Before we get into the meat and veg of this email, I want to talk very quickly about laps and reps. What do I mean by that? As humans, we are prone to compare ourselves to other people who seem more successful, connected or further along the path we are headed. I beg you to remember that unless we’re talking about Elon Musk (a martian from outer space trying desperately to get back), we’re just looking at humans who’ve done a few more laps in the pool than us. They’ve done the reps. How can you expect to develop the strength and instinct you need unless you’ve put in the reps?
Somehow when I look at things this way, it puts everything into perspective. I know I don’t have to worry that I won’t find the next step. I just need to keep showing up, and putting in the reps. I can’t ask you to stop comparing. That’s like asking you to be less human. However, I think it’s important to compare yourself in a healthy way. Look to them for inspiration. Dream BIG! As big as you can. There’s a saying I like: “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.”

Looking to connect with the likeminded in your neighborhood? OG members are hosting events in NYC and Philly, with more to come.
Philly held a meetup in January and is planning another this month (Feb)
Going to SXSW next month? @davidfeinman is putting together an OG happy hour – talk to him and sign up.
For all other cities, let @scott know if you need help putting together an event. We are seeing more and more interest in both hosting and attending, and we want to help. In fact, we’ve seen 5 new city channels created this month alone. Get a group together, and go grab some food and drinks one night!

OGs Making Moves
Every week in the hangout channel, you folks share your most recent accomplishments and we all get to learn a little bit more about each other. In the spirit of the New Year, we asked for some of the accomplishments you’re most proud of in 2016.
Here are some of the kick-ass things OG’ers did in January:
@mkuz – TalkSpace had one of it’s best sales weeks ever this month
@lancesun and I (@adamsteele) are on a mission to support entrepreneurs. Him and I have both battled with mental health issues, and we’re hoping we can shed a little light on the struggle. We’ve put together a simple survey, and hope you’ll help us help others.
@andrewculver closed on a house in L.A. A big accomplishment as a self-employed guy who took 6 months off to travel to Japan last summer. Congrats!
If I missed anyone, I am sorry. The volume of requests, and then wading through said requests is madness!!
If you folks want to appear above, share your accomplishments with us every Friday. Note the format above. The easier you make it for me to figure out why you are awesome, the more likely it is that you’ll find yourself here.
Each month I try to bring you my favorite articles, books and casts. I am a total information glutton. More inputs than I could possibly action in my lifetime. I don’t recommend this, but it sure makes recommending good reading/listening easy!
I am committed to devouring 2-4 books each month, and reporting back on which made an impact. I will also list books that are absolute essentials. Here’s a few recent and past favorites:
