60% open rate, 100s of clicks generated, over 2800 subscribers…wow and thank you!Last week, I heard from one of the folks mentioned in the last newsletter. He told me he “saw a nice bump in referrals,” and “had at least 5 members reach out asking if they could help in any way.” Love hearing this sort of thing.
Hey everyone, and welcome to the LATEST at OG.
As always, I am excited to share with you some of the big wins of the group over the last 30 days, as well as some interesting tidbits of information I’ve picked up while creeping the various Slack channels. If you are finding it tough to jump on OG Slack, this newsletter should catch you up.
If you have a minute, join us in Slack now and log-in.
I’m trying something new—an experiment, if you will. Each week I am going to siphon off 1 hour to meet an OG (ideally in person). I will start with the Vancouver folks, since that’s my home territory. @Sid and I will meet today, shortly after I finish writing a draft of this newsletter.
My goal is one new contact per week. Confession: I am a bit of a hermit, and networking events are the absolute worst. I just can’t bring myself to do them. I think this approach gives me a closer connection, and provides more for you guys to chew through.
If you are in NYC, then you absolutely must go to one of @David’s meetups. Last one had 40-50 folks attend. I am told they would be just my pace. Super personable, very approachable. If you can’t make it yourself, reach out to @scott and get the member directory. All the people you need to build an absolutely killer network are here.

You may have heard me talk about it before, but only now is it starting to pick up some steam. Much thanks to the hard work of @adealyvidal, we have almost 30 guest posting opportunities from the community. These members have opened their hearts and their blogs to your content. Here are just a few recommendations for how to approach this:
Yes, these are not features on Forbes or top industry blogs, but that’s okay! BECAUSE, you leverage one of these to get something bigger. Then use that something bigger, to get something even larger. What I mean is, once you’ve written in a few places, you show these articles to other sites you’re pitching and leverage that credibility.
Get organized before approaching one of our members. Check out their site, and come up with a few topics and summaries that would resonate with their audience. You should expect that you’ll need to provide a bio and photo.
Be informational, not promotional. Your goal is to provide value to their audience, not sell. No shame in slipping in a sentence or two to describe what you do, but I wouldn’t do much more than that.
If you’re on the other side of this equation, and would like to get that blog up and running again, you can submit your site for approval here.
@elvism just got a job with Berlin, Freelancer bank Kontist.
Want an interview or mention on Forbes, Techcrunch, Mashable, Wired, Inc, NYTimes and more? @AdamGSteele (ME!) has launched a new editorial, press service, and is giving OGs a special OG discount. Check it out!
I have no idea what any of this means, but @robertadler is selling a dedicated server. Dual Hexcores, 48 GB RAM, Dual 480GB SSD’s in RAID-1 with 100TB Transit.
@Sean is starting a SEO podcast, and he’s seeking your help (digital marketing agency folks), asking for 60 seconds of your time to fill out a quick survey.
While we’re on the topic of SEO, the homie @paulshapiro, distinguished SMX speaker (NBD), is wondering, “how long it takes you to do keyword research?” Help him here.
@nickeubanks gave me the lowdown on some interesting ways he’s been ranking websites quick! DM him. You’ll be glad you did.
@dkrevitt’s company, WithCoach.com was featured on PH! With Coach is a platform where anyone can set up their own online teaching hub. Used by marketers, devs, etc.
Neat app via @dannylowney that lets you know when your friends are nearby called Sup App. Looks pretty cool, and doesn’t have the typical…creep-factor.
@tylerwr just got brought on as VP of Growth for an online database company (Knack), and is looking for possible partnership opps.
@robmcarpenter has launched Hitshop, a done-for-you, growth marketing company in private beta. They are well on their way after only a handful of days.
Another month, and a whole lot of cool going on! If you’d like to be featured above next month, DM me in Slack.

…and something I am REALLY excited about, Hardcore History podcast released a new ep yesterday. As someone who almost only reads non-fiction, Dan Carlin’s podcast is a nice change of listening. I recommend it.
Have you checked out the new jobs board yet? It’s still young, but we’ve got a lot of eyeballs, and some great new positions being added soon. Where to find it, you ask? Here, of course.
Thanks again to those members who are always kind enough to offer up their support and advice in Slack. We wouldn’t be here without you guys. Feel free to reach out for a chance to be in our next newsletter, or to find out how you can be more involved in OG projects and initiatives.
