I don’t know about you, but May has been BIG. I feel like I went to work on May 2nd and haven’t left the office since. I’d guess the same for a lot of you, judging by how many accomplishments were shared this month, and also by how heads-down you folks have been. It’s good, I like it! Gold star for you!
I’ve really enjoyed writing the last few newsletters, and it’s important to me that you enjoy reading them just as much. There is no sense in me wasting your time or attention, so I thought we’d get something out of the way right away…

Now that we have the business out of the way, let’s chat a little, but first, did you know @david got mugged by a squirrel?
Capture their mind, and the money will follow
This isn’t a new concept, but when did you last think about it?
Unless you have been living under a rock, you know that everyone is vying for attention. It has never been so scarce, or hard to capture. We live in a society of constant interruption, and shiny, exciting new things.
So what’s a business/brand to do? How do they carve out their slice of the mind pie?
Well, I am going to be very honest with you. I am not noble, nor at all altruistic. I created my YouTube show so that one day in the distant future, I can cash in on attention. It doesn’t matter if it takes 2 years, or 200 value-packed episodes. The leverage that attention (and trust) buys you is infinitely valuable. It’s just the truth.
Providing value is the best predictor of success in the shiny new world. If you, your business or your client does something well, or knows something inside and out, share it—share all of it. The secrets, tricks, guides…the whole farm. It’s a long game (there’s probably is a small talent component that ought to be there), but it rewards those who have the patience and faith.
OGs Making Moves
Every week in the hangout channel, you folks share your most recent accomplishments and we all get to learn a little bit more about each other. Here are some recent ones:
@grace launched Slingr CRM, an alternative to traditional CRM designed for Slack.
@imshashank just shared HopData, a simple machine learning as a service platform to the public. This is the future folks!
@jsturgeon studied loads of high converting content from companies like Zapier and developed a framework that pulls together 5 characteristics of what all of the high performers have in common. A must read see IMO.
The homie @nickeubanks launched Sentinel, a badass keyword research and analysis tool. I’m yet to check it out, but if it’s made by Nick, it’s worth your time.
Each month I try to bring you my favorite articles, books and casts. I am a total information glutton. More inputs than I could possibly action in my lifetime. I don’t recommend this, but it sure makes recommending good reading/listening easy!
a16z Podcast. If you like Marc Andreessen, you’ll love this podcast, and especially this episode. By far my favorite cast in a long while.
